Emily Namunyene was born May 16, 1989, and has two sisters. Emily's mother died of cancer when Emily was around ten years old, by which time her father was already very old. Emily was left in the care of her older sister's husband, who resented the burden of caring for Emily. He refused to send her to school, and planned to marry her off in exchange for a dowry when she was twelve years old. Emily's father wanted her to be educated, and, with the help of a local area chief, prevented the marriage and got Emily an MGEF scholarship. Emily was able to continue her education.
A donation to MGEF will help to buy shoes, a uniform, and supplies for a student, or pay school fees for a needy girl to go to school.
Sponsorship is an opportunity to be a part of one student's life for the duration of her education and beyond. If you are interested in sponsoring a student, please contact MGEF so that we can discuss which is the best student for you.
