Timanto was born in 1990 in
the Namanga Division of the Kajiado District. Her father died,
and her mother has no way to support her. In January 2004,
at the age of 13, Timanto was to be married. Fortunately,
MGEF assumed her school fees and other education expenses
so she could stay in school.
When MGEF began sponsoring
Timanto in January 2004, she had not attended school since
Term 2 of that year because her family could not afford the
uniform or supplies.
Timanto graduated in November
from Isinya Primary School in Isinya and will continue on
to secondary school. Her case stands out among the sponsored
students because her mother cannot even afford her transportation
costs to go to school (something we ask of parents who can
afford it), and no one in her family ever visits her at school,
because they cannot afford transportation.
Timanto's education costs
approximately $50 per month through secondary school (grades
9-12). The fee covers supplies, uniforms, and school costs.
Sponsoring a specific girl
requires a commitment to her entire education. If you do not
feel you can make such a commitment, please consider making
a donation to the general education
fund to help support the education costs of girls who
do not have a specific sponsor.
