Lucy Nenkai Mointi

Lucy completed the 5th grade, but her family could no longer afford to pay the cost of her education. Her father suffers from poor health and is unable to help support his wife and their four children.  In 2002, her familiy moved in with relatives to find food and shelter, and an aunt paid her education costs.  But due to the recent prolonged drought in Kenya, the relatives are no longer able to support both families. Her mother has no source of income.

Josephine Tutayo Moshira

Tutayo's mother is widowed and is the sole support of her four children.  Tutayo completed primary school, but could not have gone on to secondary school without a scholarship.  After secondary school she was admitted to Kenyatta University and is majoring in Business Administration, with a focus on tourism and hotel management. She will graduate in 2012.

Lasoi Muinya

Lasoi was one of the first four girls sponsored by MGEF. Her mother and father are divorced, and her mother has no education and is barely able to support her family alone.

Neeyio Musana

Neeyio Musana enrolled in the first grade when she was ten years old.  This year, she will graduate from primary school at the top of her class.  When she was 12 years old, her father had arranged her marriage, but she ran away to her school.  She was unable to return home, as her father vowed he would marry her off if she returned.  Neeyio's mother is very supportive, but without any education and unable to support her education alone.

Samato Alphine Muyang’ai

Samato is the youngest of her mother’s 10 children. Her father is deceased, leaving two wives. Four of the boys died, 3 brothers are unemployed and 1 has a scholarship. Her only sister had to drop out of school due to lack of funds and is now married. Her mother is illiterate and has no education and she barely ekes out a subsistence living for her family by selling milk or making charcoal.
