Sopilal is from a very poor drought-prone area.  At the time she received a scholarship, her family had only one cow and no goats.  She has three brothers and two sisters, but only the brothers are allowed to go to school.  One sister was married off at the age of 14. The younger sister is still too young to be married.

Jackline Mulancha Lelit

Jackline Mulancha Lelit’s father is deceased, leaving three wives to support their combined 21 children. None of his wives are educated, but they manage to eke out a meager income from selling milk in the local market. Jackline Mulancha persists in school so that some day she can help support her family.

Esther Lemanyi

Esther's parents wanted her to be educated but could not afford to keep her in school.  Her education would have ended after the sixth grade.  When she received the MGEF scholarship, she was the only girl in her family to have enrolled in school. She is working for a degree in Business Administration in accounting.

Jackline Lemaron

Jackline's father died of AIDS when she was seven years old, and her mother who has no education, was left to support her.  Without a scholarship, she would have not been able to get an education.

Winnie Natilikia Lemayian

Winnie's mother, a teacher in an elementary school, unexpectedly passed away in May 2007.  Winnie's life became less stable; her father remarried and abandoned Winnie and her four brothers. With no one to pay for Winnie's education, she would have had to drop out of school. Her grandmother contacted MGEF and requested assistance for Winnie.
