Nancy Komeyian Lesiyo

In 2002, Nancy's father chased her mother away and left the children without supervision.  Her grandmother was too old to care for them. Nancy, who was then 13 years old, was forced to stay at home to care for the family's livestock.  Her father did not want her in school.

Ruth Nampa Losurum

Ruth Nampa's education would have ended after 9th grade without financial assistance.  Her father died when she was a year old, leaving two wives and 11 children.  Her mother never enrolled in school, and her family's survival depended on her paternal grandparents, who had planned to have her married off.  But she was a very bright student, and an MGEF scholarship saved her.  She graduated from secondary school in November 2008 with a B+ on the national test, and plans to go to college.

Dorothy Siyiapei Malleon

Dorothy's father died when she was eight years old.  Wth help from relatives, she was able to complete secondary school, but that was the end of her education. Her mother died in 2009, and she and her sister have been living with an aunt. With an MGEF scholarship she is now enrolled in college to earn a diploma in telecommunication systems and will graduate in 2011.

Irene Liteita Mamayio

Irene's father died in 1991, when she was 5 years old, leaving her mother with five children to support. Her mother has no education and her only means of support is to sell the milk from her two cows.  Due to lack of funds, an older brother attended school for only three years, and her older sister has no education and is married.

Simaloi Matuntah

Simaloi was destined not to go to school.  Her family was extremely poor and barely supported the family of five children by selling milk.   The nearest school was 15 kilometers from their home.
