Nursery School:
$650/year. To increase enrollment of Maasai girls,
MGEF offers scholarships to girls who otherwise
would never be enrolled in school, and who are the
first girl in their family to attend school. Public
boarding schools do not have boarding facilities
for nursery school students, so they are enrolled
in private schools.
Public Primary
School: $250/year. To reduce the number of students
who drop out of primary school against their wishes,
and to prevent early marriages, MGEF provides scholarships
to girls who would have to end their education early
for cultural or economic reasons. Most of these
girls would be married against their wishes between
13 and 15 years old.
Private Primary
School: $650/year. To broaden opportunities
for exceptional students, MGEF awards special grants
for private primary school education, which will
significantly increase chances of acceptance to
the best secondary schools and later to college.
Public Secondary
School: $650/year. To ensure that our students
remain in school as long as their desire and ability
allow, MGEF continues support through secondary
school and beyond.
Vocational School and
College: $1,500
- $6,000/year. To achieve the long-term goal of
economic incentives, MGEF funds higher education
costs for vocational school and college for its
students in a field with a viable job market in
Kenya. Contributions to this fund will build an
endowment for higher education, so that our students
can continue their education after graduation from
secondary school.
Tutoring:
$175/student. To improve national test scores of
its students, MGEF arranges tutoring during the
school break before the final term of the eighth
grade.
Support for a
Specific Girl: Support for a specific girl requires
a long-term commitment to her complete education
and an understanding that education costs increase
from primary school through college. Contact the
Executive Director Barbara Lee Shaw to discuss this
option at bshaw@maasaigirlseducation.org.
